Ronan Keating has stated that his ex-wife Yvonne Connolly, the mother of his three children, never really “got him”.
The former Boyzone star’s latest comments come after he spoke about his affair in a recent interview, later adding that he didn’t regret the end of their marriage as there was a “lot more to it” than him cheating.
Now, he says that he tied the knot with the model-turned-foodie too young and never knew who he was during their relationship.
‘”Yvonne didn’t [get me],” he told New! Magazine. “Maybe in some ways she did, but not in the important ways.
“We got married very young and I didn’t really know myself. With Storm, I’ve found somebody who understands me and loves me for who I am. That’s a great feeling.”
He continued: ”Being in a boyband at 16, I did what I was told. I tried to be the person people wanted me to be.”
”That, and losing my mother very young, and my brothers and sisters emigrating to America, was quite a big deal and it takes a lot of time for that to sink in.
”So I made decisions that weren’t necessarily right and I got married very young.”
Gushing about new wife Storm, who went head-to-head with Jennifer Maguire on Twitter yesterday, he described what it’s been like to find love again.
‘It’s like the curtains have been pulled back and the light’s come in,” he said. ”It’s that wonderful feeling of understanding and all of it starting to make sense.
The singer added: ”You start to feel how you’re supposed to feel when you’re in love. It was terrible, I didn’t realise until I was out [of that situation] that it wasn’t what I felt I was.
”Now I feel like this is the time of my life. I feel like I’m in my prime and I’ve met somebody who makes me feel secure.”
