Dara Quilty has revealed he’s stepping away from 98FM’s Big Ride Home this week.
After five years on the show, Dara will be venturing into pastures new, focusing on another exciting project.
Speaking to VIP Magazine, he said, “I have been on radio in Dublin since I’ve been 18, that’s 12 long years of doing it and genuinely I love it. I still do love it, it was a tough decision to step away.
“My first job for 98FM was right after my leaving cert. That company gave me the opportunity to go from a balloon holder to a multi-award-winning broadcaster. I really appreciate every opportunity they have given.
“I have achieved more than I ever thought during that show in particular but I believe risks must be taken to prevail.”
Dara, who’s in a band called Apella, remains tight-lipped about his new venture – but does admit he’ll be staying in the same industry.
“I am absolutely continuing to work in the entertainment business – it’s all I know how to do,” he joked.
As of this Friday, Dara will be handing over the reins to good friend and colleague Brian Maher, admitting he wouldn’t want to see the slot go to anyone else.
“Brian is one of my closest friends, I couldn’t think of anyone else I’d like to do the show,” he said.
“We started working together on the Zoo Crew Hot 30 in 2010, I was groomsman at his wedding… and I don’t know what the secret is but we haven’t even had a tiff in all those years, let alone an argument in all those years. We just get each other.
“98FM’s Big Ride Home is a primetime slot on Irish radio and he deserves it and will do a great job.”
We wish them both the very best of luck!
