Celebrating his son’s 8th birthday, Ray D’Arcy pulled out all the stops to ensure it was a day his little lad wouldn’t forget in a hurry.

Enjoying some rare time off, Ray spent the day with family and loved-ones, making some very special memories.

Upon his return to RTE Radio One, Ray said, “I was off celebrating my son’s eighth birthday. I have never done that before, I have never taken the day off to help one of my children celebrate their birthday.

“I am disappointed that I didn’t do it before. It is a brilliant idea if you can take a day off to be around for that day. It is a very special day because they pass very quickly as we all know.”

They had a mini get-together with some cousins, and by the sounds of things, had an absolute blast.

“Things are restricted but little cousin Ollie was there and there were Coco Pops for breakfast and McDonald’s for dinner, just so you know,” he laughed.

“And in between that, we recorded a hip hop track; Ollie did beatbox and Tom did the rapping, and there were YouTube videos shot, all sorts of things. It was a great day. It was good craic.”

Earlier this week, it was revealed Ray will be reuniting with good pals Zig and Zag, as The Den returns as part of RTE Does Comic Relief, to raise vital funds for charity.

“I had a weird Zoom meeting this morning with Zig and Zag and Dustin,” he said.

“It’s going to be a bit of craic it’s going to be a bit of fun. The old gang back together.”

The show will air on RTÉ on Friday 26th of June.
