Pierce Brosnan might be an Irish man at heart, but that doesn’t excuse him from receiving criticism over his accent.

Yes, the Drogheda-born and Navan-raised star plays mobster Conrad Harrigan in the new Paramount+ series, MobLand, which follows the Harrigan crime family and their battle with the Stevenson family in London.

Yet, despite being from Ireland, fans of the show aren’t impressed with his accent in the role.

Responding to the criticism, Pierce explained to the Radio Times how his “own accent is very soft” and that Conrad’s accent is “a million miles away” from his.

He went on to add how a dialect coach recommended he speak with someone whose voice he could use as inspiration.

“I told him that I needed a Kerry accent, so he gave me the name of a man, and I googled the guy, and that was it.

“It was a Kerry accent and so I just gave it full tilt,” he added.

Sadly, the reviews were very much mixed, with the Irish Independent even noting how Pierce’s voice as Conrad was “all over the shop and a huge distraction”.

During the interview, Pierce also opened up about the blend of nerves and anticipation he experiences with each new role.

The 72-year-old shared: “Every job is a challenge, and it all comes with a thump of anxiety, because you have to do something.

“What are you doing on the stage? Why are you there? So that’s constant. You live with that. You live with that stress all the time, and that’s what’s so exhilarating.

“That’s what makes you alive.”
