Paul Mescal has finally opened up about the future of Normal People – but people might not like what he has to say.
The Irish actor, who plays Connell in the hit show, has revealed it’s unlikely there’ll be a second season, but if it was to happen, he’d jump at the chance to reprise the role.
“There’s no question that character, to me, is still alive and breathing and very much has a lot of life left to live, and has a relationship with Marianne that is maybe unfinished,” he told Wonderland magazine.
“I do feel like the series has finished, and I’m totally comfortable with that.
“It [season two] isn’t on the cards at the moment, but if I got the opportunity to play him again, amazing.”
The show, which follows the lives of two Sligo natives as they begin their young adult life in Trinity college, has amassed an incredible following throughout Ireland, the UK and abroad, with stars such as Kourtney Kardashian and Katy Perry tuning in.
Knowing how incredibly popular it has become and the interest surrounding every aspect of it, Paul decided to raise some awareness for Irish mental health charity Pieta House, by raffling off his iconic chain from the show.
“Pieta is a cause very close to my heart, having experienced loss due to suicide in my local town while growing up,” he said.
“Episode 10 of Normal People also touches upon depression and suicidal ideation, so it seemed like a very special partnership to want to help those in similar situations. I want to play my part in helping sustain these free services across Ireland.”
Pieta House provides free therapy to those engaging in self-harm, with suicidal ideation, or bereaved by suicide and following the cancellation of their biggest fundraiser, Darkness Into Light this year, any donations will be hugely beneficial.
