Paul McGrath dedicates tonight’s Lodging with Lucy to his late mum

Back on our screens tonight, Lucy Kennedy will be spending some quality time with a few of the biggest names in Ireland.

While she can’t move into their homes, show bosses decided to change things up a little for the newly named, Lodging with Lucy.

This time, guests will join Lucy in a countryside manor, where they can stay for lunch, dinner or have a sleepover – all while maintaining social distancing guidelines.

First up, is Irish football legend, Paul McGrath.

Speaking of his experience with Lucy he said, “I had a fantastic day recording and getting the chance to catch up again and chat with Lucy – she is a diamond & great fun !

“It was strange to record the show in line with the new rules but we managed and I’m really looking forward to seeing the finished product.”

Not long after filming wrapped, Paul’s mum died and he wants to use this episode to celebrate her life.

“Very sadly, my mum Betty passed away since we recorded the show and I would like to dedicate this episode to the memory of my beautiful mother,” he said.

At the time of her passing, he shared a gorgeous picture of the pair together and paid an emotional tribute to the most important woman in his life.

“Last night I lost my best friend,” he began. “My beautiful mum Betty passed away peacefully and today my heart is breaking. I owe everything to her. Sleep well Mum, love you… Paul.”

Friends and famous faces were quick to share their condolences.

Miriam O’Callaghan said, “So so sorry to hear this Paul. I know how much you adored your mum. I hope you are okay and remember she will keep minding you forever from heaven.”

John Creedon wrote, “Very sorry to hear the sad news Paul. I expect you were a source of great love and joy to your mom. Mind yourself the best you can.”

Robbie Keane simply added, “Thinking of you pal.”

Lodging with Lucy kicks off tonight on Virgin Media One at 9pm.
