Christmas is a time for indulging and enjoying all your favourite festive treats. Chocolate, bubbly, cake- you name it! It’s the one time of year where anything goes when it comes to food, and you shouldn’t deprive yourself.
While many of us are conscious during the year of keeping fit and monitoring what we put into our bodies, Christmas can really throw us off balance, and it can be hard to find our feet again. In an effort to bypass this small issue, we spoke to personal trainer Maeve Madden to learn how we can remain somewhat fit and healthy this year.
While she told us to enjoy everything this Christmas, the fitness pro did remind us that staying active this holiday season is important. She revealed that 30 minutes of light exercise a day will help ease you back into your fitness regime come January.
Speaking exclusively to VIP Magazine Maeve said, “We can all enjoy the festive food and over indulge, however, it is easier to get back into the healthy eating pattern than it is to restart the workouts.
“January is a cold month and it’s hard enough just getting up on those dark mornings, never mind trying to motivate yourself to start a new routine, so I recommend staying active over the holidays.
“You don’t have to be hitting the gym on Christmas morning, but Ireland is the most beautiful country in the world and going for long walks outside is a great, refreshing way to take a break from all the cooking and social media, and have some quality time with friends/family. I try to get up every day and go for a quick run, just 30 minutes of exercise can make a huge difference.”
There you have it folks, a short 30 minutes in the fresh air can keep you on track this Christmas. Who’d have thought it, eh?
