Our current Miss Ireland, Pamela Uba, is reflecting on her past year representing the country, before crowning this year’s winner at tonight’s ceremony.
Writing a sweet tribute to her time as Miss Ireland, the medical scientist said on Instagram: “As I prepare to hand over my crown, I wanted to reflect on the amazing journey I have had so far. Miss Ireland has given me opportunities that I could only dream of. I travelled to Puerto Rico twice for the Miss World final and placed in the top 40 out of 98 contestants.”
“Being the first black woman to hold this most prestigious title meant so much to not only me and my family, but to so many others who felt underrepresented. I did this to show young girls out there that they are enough and they can do it too!”
The former Miss Galway shared how her time as Miss Ireland allowed her to get involved in campaigns that were close to her heart and make a difference. Citing her work with her own Beauty With a Purpose Projects, and Variety Ireland.
Explaining: “Through my Beauty With a Purpose Projects, I had the opportunity to advocate for children living in direct provision and refugee camps through my campaign Make Education A Superpower!, and fundraise to install 3 computer rooms with iPads at 3 centres with the help of Variety Ireland, so that the kids could always have access to educational tools, especially during the recent pandemic when schools went online,” Pamela continued.
“I became an ambassador for Variety Ireland and was able to provide all the special needs assistants in national schools in Galway with iPads to aid them in taking care of children who are differently abled.”
“I am so grateful that my story of being a child in direct provision and my message advocating for those children affected was shared not only nationally in the media, but internationally too!”
Pamela also highlighted the different opportunities Miss Ireland brought her.
Explaining: “I had the opportunity to work with many amazing brands, and sign with Collaborations Agency, and to work with our amazing sponsors who I want to say a but thank you to for all the support (Simply Divine, Mane n’ Tail, Lash Dolls, Onefit and Vanity X).”
“A very special moment was being nominated for both the Goss.ie and VIP Style Awards as the Best/Most Stylish Newcomer, with both of my incredible outfits made by Brendan.”
She also made sure to thank those who supported her along the way: “All of this would not be possible without the most amazing people, Seán and Brendan, my absolute rocks, and the wider Miss Ireland team and my family, boyfriend and friends.”
“They have given me so many opportunities and the best experiences I have ever had this past year. I am so lucky to have them all in my life.”
Pamela ended her post with a sweet message for the next Miss Ireland.
Writing: “To who ever is crowned Miss Ireland 2022, you are one lucky lady and I look forward to helping and guiding you in whatever way I can. Miss Ireland has taught me so much, the sky is the limit so reach for the stars and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
“Never a goodbye, only on to the next chapter. Forever your Miss Ireland 2021. Lots of love, Pamela Uba.”
Pamela was crowned Miss Ireland in September 2021, and tonight will pass along the iconic emerald crown to one of the 36 finalists in the competition.
While her time as Miss Ireland is coming to an end, it certainly isn’t the last we’ll see of Pamela, as she just made her debut on Ireland AM.
We cannot wait to see what the future has in store for her.
