Miss Galway Pamela Uba has made history last weekend, crowned the first-ever black Miss Ireland.
The ceremony took place in the Lakeside Manor Hotel in Cavan on Sunday night, with 30 contestants all competing for the title.
On the night, it was Miss Galway, Pamela Uba who bet out the other 29 girls, securing her title as Miss Ireland 2021.
Taking to Instagram yesterday, Pamela shared what the win means to her:
“It’s like a dream come true. Words can’t even begin to describe how I’m feeling right now, or have been feeling for the past week leading up to the final. It has been a rollercoaster of emotions!”
“My journey began a in March 2020, back when we all thought our lockdown would last 2weeks 😅, and what a journey it has been especially during a global pandemic! I remember watching @tirna_slevin win Miss Galway and knew then that this was a path I would walk one day”
Pamela went on to thank all those around her, including her friends, family, and all of the other contestants, who she is now close friends with.
“It has been such a privilege to get to know, stand beside and go through this unique journey with so many extraordinary young women in the competition”
The 25-year-old first moved to Ireland at a very young age, starting out her life her with her family in Direct Provision, after moving from South Africa. Since then, Pamela has gone on to become a medical scientist, working on the frontline through the last 18 months in University Hospital Galway.
She will now go on to represent Ireland at the 70th Miss World taking place in Peurto Rico this December.
