Do you have what it takes to be the next Miss Ireland, or do you know someone who does? Then this is your chance, as current Miss Ireland, Pamela Uba has announced the details of the search for Miss Ireland 2022.
The competition, which will be celebrating its 75th Jubilee this year, is set to have its show this summer at the Royal Theatre Castlebar with 1,500 people in attendance.
They are currently looking for people all over Ireland to apply with selections being held in every county, the winner chosen from each will then get the chance to represent their county at the Diamond Jubilee Miss Ireland show.
The overall winner for 2022 will win a lucrative agency contract as well as a host of prizes including jewellery, gowns, professional photo shoots, beauty and hair products and then get jet off to represent her country at the Miss World Festival which is televised in over 100 countries around the world.
We caught up with Pamela last year as she was in Puerto Rico at the Miss World finals, which later got cancelled due to rising Covid cases. She shared with VIP that she learned how to deal with knockbacks thanks to her upbringing; after moving to Ireland from South Africa at the age of 8, Pamela spent ten years with her family living in Direct Provision.
As the first black woman to ever be crowned Miss Ireland, Pamela spoke to us about how much it meant to her; “It meant a lot to me. It shouldn’t be about colour, but I’m so happy to represent a different kind of Irish. A more diverse Irish, a more inclusive Irish. To show people we have untapped talent everywhere, we just have to look around.”
“It’s amazing to me that little girls will look up to me and see their faces reflected in mine, and it gives them hope. I’m glad to be that beacon of hope, especially in these times.’
