Summer is over – and you know what that means…
It’s time for crunchy leaves, spiced lattes, and a whole load of new movies that we’re super looking forward to seeing.
Here are nine of them, set to be released over the next few months.
1. Gladiator 2
Let’s start with the obvious – Gladiator 2 is landing in screens in November, and we will be sat.
Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington and Connie Nielsen lead the cast of this long awaited sequel that sees the heir to the Empire forced to fight to prove himself.
We will be entertained.
2. Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice
Another day, another sequel, and this one too, also looks decent.
Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara return for the second movie 36 years later, alongside Wednesday’s Jenna Ortega.
Expect laughs, thrills, and plenty of shrunken fun.
3. The Substance
Now, for something a little bit different.
The Substance is a body horror, beauty standards commentary, and seemingly the best performance of Demi Moore’s career.
She and Margaret Qualley star as different versions of one another, as Demi’s character tries a mysterious drug after being fired for turning 50.
Come with a strong stomach.
4. We Live in Time
Name a more perfect couple casting than Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield. You can’t.
The pair face a serious life event as their romance plays out non-linearly in this romantic drama directed by Brooklyn’s John Crowley.
Tissues at the ready, girls.
5. Joker: Folie à Deux
The long awaited sequel to Todd Phillips’ Joker is almost here, and it’s got Lady Gaga! Yep, we were as surprised as you were.
The original film nabbed Joaquin Phoenix an Oscar, and you can be sure we’re hoping for the same for Gaga.
She deserves it.
6. The Outrun
Saoirse Ronan with blue hair and a Scottish accent? Say no more.
The Outrun follows Rona, a woman who returns home to the Orkney Islands to deal with her addiction. Based on Amy Liptrot’s 2016 memoir, the film has been described as “emotionally charged” and “delicate.”
Right up Saoirse’s alley, then.
7. Smile 2
Hear us out – the first Smile movie was okay!
Sure, the entire plot was revealed in the trailer, it was riddled with jump scares, and the premise got old sort of fast, but hey.. the second one is out this autumn. Hooray.
8. Oddity
There’s more Irish talent bound as director Damian McCarthy releases his second feature film, Oddity.
The movie follows a bereaved, blind medium who wants to discover the truth about her sister’s murder. She enlists a creepy mannequin to do so, and well, you can guess how that goes.
9. Wicked
Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are taking on the iconic roles of Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West in this adaptation of the much loved musical.
The first part is out this year, but we’ll unfortunately have to wait a bit longer for the full thing.
Here’s hoping it’ll be worth it.
