An area of the entertainment business that has taken a massive hit is film and TV. Whilst bands and singers can still record music during lockdowns (we’re looking at you Taylor Swift) it’s almost impossible when filming a TV show.
Although some in the US, like Stranger Things, are back filming Nicola Coughlan has shared that Derry Girls hasn’t just yet.
Speaking with the Belfast Telegraph, Nicola who plays the hilarious Clare Devlin in the show, shared; “We’re still waiting, because it’s integral to the show that we film in Derry.”
“And we can’t do anything involving a crowd right now, so logistically, it’s really tough.”

Despite this, Nicola has been in touch with show creator Lisa McGee who has shared the plot for the next season with her; “But I spoke to Lisa McGee recently and she talked me through the storylines.”
“They’re so brilliant, which doesn’t surprise me – she’s just incredible – but it made me want to do it right now. But we also want to do the best version of the show we can.”

She added; “By hell or high water, we all want to make it work – if they said we could go tomorrow, trust me, we would all be there.”
With filming for Derry Girls pushed back and lots of rumours about Bridgerton season two at the moment, we just hope these schedules don’t clash as we can’t wait to see Nicola return to our screens as Penelope in the Netflix show!
