Nicola Coughlan has opened up about her father’s death on a recent episode of Laura Whitmore’s podcast, Castaway.
Speaking to Laura she discusses how he died five days before she got her part in hit show, Derry Girls.
Specifically, Nicola reveals that she finds her father not being able to see her success the hardest; “He sadly didn’t know I ever got it. It’s sad he never got to see it. I’m so privileged, I’m so lucky and I have a really special life.”
All of the most special moments that have come since are also difficult for the 33 year old actress, especially awards season; “The first time we were at the Baftas and won these incredible awards, it’s always that tinge of sadness he’s not here to see it.”
Admitting it’s particularly hard as “At the end of the day what most of us want is to make our parents proud.”
Derry Girls has been confirmed for a season three and we already can’t wait to see Nicola Coughlan and co back on our screens soon.
