Since Bridgerton premiered last December, with only eight episodes, our hearts have since had a Bridgerton sized hole in them. Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington in the series, shared some Bridgerton season two secrets, and now we really can’t wait for it.
The star has been busy clearing up the Bridgerton rumours lately, so there’s no better woman to keep us filled in. We’ve compiled a list of everything we know so far about the second season to make things easy. You’re welcome.
For one, it’s going to be “spicier.” We don’t see how it could, but Nicola revealed that this season is set to be spicier than the last. Particularly for her character, Penelope. Nicola explained to ET , “It’s got a whole lot spicier I will say. You definitely see more sides to her.”
She went on to say,”‘I feel like the Bridgerton world has grown and you’re going to see a lot more sides to her. She’s a sassy chick.”
We won’t spoil anything, but after last season’s shock ending, we are definitely intrigued. The second season is based on the second book in the Bridgerton novel series, The Viscount Who Loved Me.
With any book series adaptation, season structure is always a surprise. However, Bridgerton seems intent to follow the novels in chronological order. The Viscount Who Loved Me, focuses on Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) as he explores a relationship with Kate Sharma.
Nicola confirmed that this upcoming season will focus on Anthony and Kate. Voicing her excitement, she said, “Kate is such a fiery character. She’s like this strong, independent woman. We really wanted to get to that, and the fact that we get to tell [it] is a real privilege.”
With new characters such as Kate entering the show, the cast is set to expand. Speaking of which…
New cast members are set to join the show this season (and one of them is another Derry Girls star!) Simone Ashley is set to join the cast as the female lead. The Sex Education star is joining the cast playing the previously mentioned Kate Sharma.
Charithra Chandran will play Edwina Sharma, Kate’s younger sister, along with Shelley Conn, who will play Mary Sharma, Kate’s mother.
Also joining is Calam Lynch, who you may know as John-Paul O’Reilly from Derry Girls, a.k.a. the lad who stud Erin up for the prom. Calam will play Theo Sharpe, a hardworking printer’s assistant. Another new addition to the cast is Rupert Young. He will play Jack, a young man with connections to some notable families.
But alas, while we have all of this info, there is still one thing we don’t know; the return date.
