Arguably everyone’s favourite show of 2021, Bridgerton has earned an impressive 12 nominations for the upcoming Emmy awards.
The news was announced yesterday and many stars of the Netflix show were quick to share their delight! Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope in the period drama, was celebrating the nominations last night.
Sharing a snap to Instagram she said; “Don’t mind me just celebrating Bridgerton’s 12 (TWELVE!) Emmy nominations!!”
Continuing, the Galway native said; “What an overwhelming honour @televisionacad, thank you so much, and a huge thank you to the incredible fans of the show who give us more support than we could ever possibly wish for.”
“Also @netflix can I please have the day off work to go? I love a party!” she added.
Following the show’s launch in late 2020, it quickly became the highest rated programme on Netflix, with 82 million streams in only 30 days. So, after smashing all previous records, it was no surprise the period drama was given the green light for a second season, as well as a third and fourth.
Just last weekend Nicola was given the Rising tar award at the Ireland’s virtual IFTA’s.
Nicola accepted the award and revealed how much it meant to her to win; “This is so special because all you really want is people at home to be happy with what you are doing.”
“Thank you so much to the Irish Film and Television Academy for my nominations, what an honour.”
