Any who has watched Bridgerton knows all about the sex scenes – and star of the show Nicola Coughlan revealed she skipped through each and every one of them while watching it with her mam.
The Galway native plays the role of fan favourite Penelope Featherington in the hit show and while she’s not directly involved in these scenes took all precautions to avoid a red face.
While chatting on the Make It Reign podcast, Nicola said, “I knew pretty well how the episodes went and the amount of sexiness in them.
“When I showed her the first episode and Johnny Bailey’s bum appeared very quickly into episode one, she was like, ‘What is going on?’ I had to say, ‘It’s not my fault I didn’t write it, it’s romance novels and it’s a really important part of the story,’ but I was still in trouble.”
“Then with episode six I thought, ‘oh my God what am I going to do? It’s non-stop sh*gging! I am going to be in so much trouble’.
“What I ended up doing was just fast-forwarding through all the sexy bits and at the end of the episode she said, ‘that one was very short!’”
Since the show launched on Netflix it has become their highest rated show, with 82 million streams in only 30 days.
Following the incredible success, it’s no surprise the period drama will be back for a second season.
Filming is due to begin over the coming weeks – with Lady Whistledown herself confirming the news.
Here’s what she said:
The ton are abuzz with the latest gossip, and so it is my honour to impart to you:
Bridgerton shall officially return for a second season. I do hope you have stored a bottle of ratafia for this most delightful occasion.
The incomparable cast of Bridgerton will return to production in the Spring of 2021. This author has been reliably informed that Lord Anthony Bridgerton intends to dominate the social season. I will have my pen ready to report on any and all of his romantic activities.
However, gentle reader, before you set the comments section alight with requests for more sordid details, know that I am disinclined to report on the particulars at this time. Patience, after all, is a virtue.
Yours Truly,
Lady Whistledown.
