For all of us the past year of working from home has been a learning curve, and Nicky Byrne has opened up about how he found the switch from touring the world to recording an album at home.

The Westlife star and his bandmates were all working on their new record separately from their own homes which they have said has been challenging at times!

Sharing his experience Nicky said; “For me, this is the longest I’ve ever been out of work. I’ve never sat around for this length of time.”

“Even when Westlife finished in 2012 I went onto Strictly Come Dancing, jumped into 2FM and then other tv shows. I’m not the type to sit around but this was for the health and safety of my family and everyone else around the country.”

Continuing he added; “I’m dying to get back to normality now. It’s the world we’re in though and thankfully things are moving forward and baby steps in the right direction.”

The 42-year-old also opened up about how all this extra time spent at home strengthened his marriage saying;  “It’s brilliant and as strong as ever, we’re madly in love and we always will be.”

As Nicky would usually be in studio somewhere or on tour for him lockdown meant spending more time with his loved ones; “It’s been great, getting to spend time with the kids and G has been brilliant, particularly after coming back from the year-long tour.”

“They travelled over and back from the UK, but they wouldn’t travel to Asia or any far away places like because you’re in these cities for 24hrs and gone again. All is well at home. You need that base and that strength to keep you going and thankfully I have that.”
