Following his diagnosis last Novemember, Newstalk presenter Bobby Kerr opened up about his battle with cancer on The Late Late Show last night.
The broadcaster revealed that he’s finally “on the mend”, having completed his treatment and will be back on air this weekend.
Bobby opened up about his diagnosis, revealing to Tubridy that it’s not something he expected at all.
He said, “I was fortunate enough that my cancer was diagnosed early. My girls kept badgering me to go to the doctor and eventually my daughter Rebeca made the appointment for me and I went.
“I went to see a consultant and they did a biopsy and they told me, ‘I’m sorry. I’m afraid you’ve got cancer.’ I’m only one of those 35,000 people who hear that awful sentence.
“I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. I rang my wife Mary and I just couldn’t speak because I was so shocked and that was really difficult.
“The main thing I felt though was that I wanted other people to go and get themselves checked.”
Bobby revealed that despite becoming “much sicker towards the end” of the treatment, he believes keeping a positive outlook on the situation is what helped him through it.
“I’m a very positive person and I told myself that ‘I’m going to beat this,’” he said. “ There was no option other than for me to say that. I’m lucky to have that positive attitude, but I’m back now and I’m so ready for action.”
We’re delighted to hear!
