My Beauty Bag with Pestle & Mortar founder, Sonia Deasy

We took a look inside Pestle & Mortar founder, Sonia Deasy…

Tell us your morning/evening skincare routine.
As a mum-of-five, I’m all about speed and convenience in the mornings. I don’t wear much makeup – not because I’m against it, but because I’m lazy! That’s why I focus on getting my natural skin to look and feel its best. In the morning, I start with our Renew gel cleanser, followed by a swipe of NMF lactic acid toner for gentle exfoliation. Then I hydrate – layer upon lightweight layer! I go in with the Balance facial spritz, apply Pure Hyaluronic Serum, and follow it up with our Vitamin C 2 Phase Serum. I pat on Recover eye cream to brighten my under-eyes, lock it all in with Hydrate moisturiser, and finish with Daily Shield SPF 50. And just like that, I’m good to glow! At night, I double cleanse to remove the day, then finish with the Superstar+ retinoid treatment – it’s a game changer for ageing skin. Dab on my eye cream, apply lip mask and then it’s off to bed for beauty sleep.

What’s your favourite beauty hack or piece of advice you’ve received?
My dad always said, “Anything you try to hide is what people will see.” It taught me to focus on enhancing my natural skin, rather than trying to hide my flaws. Oh, and to get seven or eight hours sleep every night. It’s the best beauty hack out there, hands down!

What’s your favourite beauty treatment to get done?
A deep muscular, full-body, Ayurvedic massage. It leaves me feeling completely relaxed and grounded, and I always walk out feeling like I’ve pressed the reset button on life.

Do you follow beauty trends? If so, what’s your favourite at the moment?
I’ve always believed in the less-is-more approach; good diet, exercise, hydration, and a simple skincare routine. That said, I do find it fascinating how many beauty trends are just marketable reworkings of common sense. Take skin flooding, for example – it’s essentially about layering hydration, which is something we’ve known for years. Trends come and go but the basics of good skincare – keeping your skin healthy, hydrated, and protected – stands the test of time.
