Muireann O’Connell reveals the one wedding tradition she won’t be partaking in

Muireann O’Connell is opening up about her wedding plans, after announcing her engagement back in November of 2021.

Speaking about her wedding plans, Muireann shared one wedding tradition that she will not be partaking in – to wear a white wedding dress.

“I only started to understand what my style was two years ago and I started investing in things I actually like, so I really don’t know yet.

“I probably won’t wear white though. Traditionally when you go back to Eleanor of Aquitaine times, the dress wasn’t a white one, it was red,” she revealed to RSVP Magazine.

“I think if I wore white I’d just spill something on it.

“I love the idea of someone getting a dress that they adore, dyeing it afterwards, and then wearing it again.

“I don’t want to have a wedding dress that I’d only wear once. And if I have bridesmaids they won’t be getting bridesmaid dresses either, they can buy something that they’d like.”

Muireann then added that she’s not so much looking forward to planning the big day.

“I’ve only ever organised one party for myself, I found it really stressful and I hated it.

“Some people aren’t made for that. A friend of mine had so many Excel sheets and I really can’t imagine that being me.”

Muireann often keeps her relationship out of the public eye, often referring to her other half as her ‘housemate’, but her engagement news was shared on Ireland AM in November.

Sharing a pic on Instagram, Muireann wrote: “Just how I wanted it to happen; @tommybowe & @alanhughestv announcing my engagement to the world after they finally spotted the ring.”

Speaking about her engagement on the show, Muireann revealed: “I got engaged at the weekend. It was very lovely! He was trying to pick a romantic place, we were in the Europe Hotel, and then we were in our favourite hotel in Cromane, but nothing was right.”

“Then I kept inviting my mother everywhere with us this weekend. He’d be like, ‘Come on let’s go for a walk,’ and I’d be like, ‘Mam come on let’s go!’ He took his opportunity when we were standing in the kitchen and I was making a cup of tea. He got down on one knee, and yes, I did cry.”

Before jokingly adding: “It took us years to get here, so the wedding will be in a decade.”
