RTE presenter Miriam O’Callaghan has silenced rumours that she will be running for presidency in the 2018 election.
Although the Primetime host is held is well respected and held in high acclaim for her educated political views, she insists that the role of president of Ireland isn’t on her radar and blames bookies for bringing up these rumours again.
Speaking to Jarlath Regan on his Irishman Abroad podcast Miriam said, “I think it’s bookies. Paddy Power may have started the whole thing. Put up a few names and it gets some kind of traction.”
While the 59-year-old admitted that she will not be launching a bid for presidency, she did take a moment to compliment our current president Michael D. Higgins, calling him “superb.”
She said, “We have a superb President in Michael D. He’s playing a blinder.”
This isn’t the first time these leadership claims have been made about Miriam, in fact they started back at the 2011 election.
Last year, Miriam confirmed exclusively to VIP Magazine that there is no truth to the rumours and from the sounds of it, it seems that her stance has remained the same.
If you ever change your mind Miriam, we think you would be great!
