Michael Fassbender has admitted one of his most embarrassing red carpet moments was when Marion Cotillard told him he stank of fish earlier this summer.
The two star together in the latest big-screen adaptation of Macbeth, and while on on the red carpet for the movie’s premiere in Cannes, the French actress decided to tell him that he wasn’t smelling the best.
Speaking to Britain’s Stylist magazine, the Kerry native said, “I was surprising relaxed other than Marion telling me that I smelt of fish.”
He explained, “I was sitting next to her and she was like, ‘Did you have fish for dinner?’ I said yes and she was like, ‘I just want to tell you because I’m your friend that maybe you should have some chewing gum.’”
“And I was like, ‘I’m eating chewing gum!’, so then I had to (mimes breathing into hands) to see if I stank of fish! This was not how I imagined that moment to be.”
