Michael Fassbender returned to his home town in Kerry yesterday along with his partner Alicia Vikander to receive a prestigious accolade.
The actor, who was born in Germany and moved to Kerry in 1979, was honoured by being inducted into the Order of Innisfallen – bestowed by Killarney in Co Kerry – in recognition of his huge success within the film industry.
The ceremony took place yesterday in Muckross House, Killarney last night, and despite attending numerous prestigious awards ceremonies in the past, he admitted that he was very nervous about this particular one.
“I feel quite nervous today. It’s just a very surreal experience. I’m deeply humbled by the whole thing,” he told RTE.
“This is my home. This is where I grew up. It’s a very magical place. This is the place that formed my personality.”
