A Status Orange fog warning has been put in place for for the entire country today. The warning will be in place until midday this afternoon. Forecaster’s warn that dense fog will carry on from last night, and should continue into this evening also.
It’s time to break out the winter woolies as temperatures are also set to drop as low as -3C, and a widespread frost is due to set in tonight. Met Eireann have said it “will be very cold in near calm, with a sharp to severe frost, as well as dense fog in parts. Lowest temperatures -3C to +3C, coldest where clear skies persist.”
The Road Safety Authority have shared some advice to both motorists and pedestrians on how to stay safe in this weather. They advise vehicle drivers to slow down and increase the distance between the car in front of you, use dipped headlights in the front of the car and fog lights at the rear, open the window slightly to hear other road users and be sure to turn off fog lights when viability increases.
For pedestrians being seen in this weather is crucial, so wear high visibility clothing and carry a torch. Also be vigilant when walking near water also.
