Say it ain’t so!
Yes, for the last week, Maura Derrane had been killing it on the airwaves as she stepped into Ryan Tubridy’s shoes and took over his RTÉ Radio 1 slot.
However, it looks as if her time on the radio will soon be coming to an end, as she confirmed that she won’t be replacing Ryan permanently.
Since Ryan left the station following the fallout from the RTÉ payment scandal, Oliver Callan and Brendan Courtney had been hosting the show over the summer with Maura picking up shortly after.
And while listeners had hoped that Maura would gain a permanent job on the airwaves, it seems as though that will no longer be the case.
Speaking to the RTÉ Guide, Maura said: “I could have flown under the radar somewhere else much more easily.
“It would have been a simpler process to just slip in there and maybe not a lot of people would have their eyes on you in the way that there are eyes on me now.
“It is a big, huge role, but I’m not in there to take over the role. I’m just in there to get my wings.
“I’m in there for two weeks and that’s it and I’m so lucky to be given such a prestigious show to train myself up on,” she added.
Maura then stated how she had her “eye” on radio for some time and when the opportunity arose, she couldn’t pass it down.
“Sometimes that’s meant to be, and I really believe it was meant to be, at this time, for me to do these two weeks. I didn’t procrastinate. I didn’t think about it. I just did it.”
So, who do you think will take over the RTÉ Radio 1 slot on a permanent basis?
