We welcome her into our homes every weekday afternoon courtesy of RTÉ’s Today show and now Maura Derrane has spoken exclusively to our sister magazine TVnow of what it’s like to work on the small screen, including live television.
The working mum admitted she is very conscious of her appearance because the audience will let her know what they think about her hair, clothes and her make up.
“Everyone is always commenting about how you look when you’re a woman on air – last year I changed my hair and everyone was giving out on Facebook,” she said.
“The audience are very in tune with us; it’s like reality tv to a certain extent”.
While the production of Today is a long, intensive process, broadcasting live is one of Maura’s professional passions. “It’s adrenaline the whole time,” she says of the excitement of going on air every day. “You can’t be nervous, you can’t be worried about what you’re going to say.”
