Mary Kennedy has announced that she will be leaving RTE after 40 years on air.
The well loved presenter, who is best known for heading up Nationwide, revealed that she will be leaving the station this September after she celebrates her 65th birthday.
Speaking to the RTE Guide, the mother of two said she is sad to be stepping down.
“I’d love to stay but it’s up to RTE if I go or not,” she revealed.
“All I can say is that I love what I do and I would love it to continue.”
The former presenter of the Eurovision song contest will be kept busy in her retirement, as she recently became a grandmother for the first time.
Mary has shared the exciting news that her 31-year-old daughter and her husband Benny welcomed a little boy back in April.
“It is the first grandchild on both sides,” Mary told The Sunday Independent.
“Eva is my eldest and she was the first grandchild for her grandparents. Patrick Sonny Boland is her and Benny’s first child.
“A beautiful, healthy, little boy. We are all besotted.”
