Majella O’Donnell has spoken out against the harsh treatment Cliff Richard faced during a two year investigation into sex abuse claims made against him.
Cliff has been under investigation over the past two years following sex assault allegations made by four men. The superstar has categorically denied the claims over the course of the investigation and yesterday, the charges were officially dropped by prosecutors due to insufficient evidence.
Majella and Cliff have been friends for years and her support for the singer was unwavering through out the investigation.
She took to Twitter yesterday to express her delight with the progress saying, “So happy to hear that #cliffrichard will face no charges after a 2 year investigation!! I always believed in him!”
The 56 year old went on to criticise the harsh treatment her pal faced over the course of the investigation, “About time 2!! He was treated appallingly!! Accusers should NOT be named until proven guilty. He was always innocent”
Cliff made a statement after the charges were dropped yesterday saying, “After almost two years under police investigation I learnt today that they have finally closed their enquiries.
“I have always maintained my innocence, co-operated fully with the investigation, and cannot understand why it has taken so long to get to this point!
“Nevertheless, I am obviously thrilled that the vile accusations and the resulting investigation have finally been brought to a close.”
We’re glad to see Majella’s such a loyal friend!
