Lucy Kennedy has said she is grateful she was able to support her co-host Colm Hayes following the death of his wife, Anne Laird-Caffrey.

The duo first crossed paths in 2010, stepping into a radio slot following the sudden death of Gerry Ryan.

And what began as a professional pairing quickly evolved into a beautiful friendship.

Over the years, their partnership moved from station to station, eventually finding a home on their current breakfast show.

In September 2025, Hayes lost his beloved wife, Anne Laird-Caffrey, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.

The couple were together for 45 years and married for 35 years when she passed away, and have two children, Holly and Alex.

Reflecting on her support during that time, Lucy said she was glad she could be there for him both personally and professionally.

“I’m so glad that we were together for all of that and for me to be able to get the chance to actually literally hold his hand in work. And get him back,” she told The Irish Independent.

She added that their friendship has been strengthened over recent years.

“We’ve had so many tests within our friendship over the last couple of years, it’s solid.

“I genuinely love him, he’s one of my favourite people, and he’s ridiculous.”

Touching on when they first met, Lucy noted: “We were kind of put together as strangers, and I think we connected and bonded very quickly.”
