Dublin’s Luas systems will cease to operated at midday today.
The trams were operating this morning but as Ophelia rages on decisions have been made to cancel journeys from 12pm.
In a statement issued from the Luas at 10.30, it said:
“The Luas Red and Green Line services will be curtailed from 10 am onwards today.
“Trams are being brought back to the Luas depots where they will be stored safely.
“There will be no tram service from approx. midday for the remainder of the day.
“Normal service will resume tomorrow Tuesday 17/10/2017 at 5.30am.
“This decision was made for a number of reasons:
“Electricity in the overhead power lines must be turned off and cannot be turned on until a visual and technical inspection is under taken this evening. Staff Safety is our piority The infrastructure will also need to be checked for debris and water levels.
“Luas will review the situation on an ongoing basis and is taking advice from Met Éireann and the National Emergency Coordination Committee.”
To keep up to speed, the transport system advised watching social media for news.
“Please watch Luas.ie, twitter@luas and AA Roadwatch for update.”
This comes as Dublin Bus withdrew all of their services at 10am.
