Jake Carter has explained the age gap between he and girlfriend Karen Byrne makes no difference to him.
The singer began dating his Dancing with the Stars partner last year after the show ended, but the age gap had some people talking.
Jake is 20 and his Dubliner girlfriend Karen is 26.
Speaking about the age difference, Jake explained that he is mature for his age: “I grew up younger than other people my age, I think.”
“When you’re younger, an age gap is kind of made out to be a bigger deal, but as I get a bit older you realise love isn’t about age and you can’t help who you fall in love with,” he told Independent.ie.
“The age thing doesn’t bother either of us.”
Jake previously told VIP Magazine that he believes everything happens for a reason.
“I think everything in life is mapped out for you,” he said.
“If you’re meant to be with that person or you really like that person and they like you as well, it’s definitely more likely to happen because you’re spending so much time with someone.
He also explained why he does not believe in the strictly curse.
“I don’t believe in the Strictly curse though because it could happen in an office, it could happen anywhere. It’s just the amount of time you’re spending with someone.”
Jake and Karen took home the glitterball this time last year on the second series of the show and is now busy touring and making music.
“It is a bit crazy, life is like that. I’m happy where I am now,” he said.
