Listeners praise Claire Byrne as she takes over RTÉ Radio 1’s Today Show slot

Yesterday, journalist and presenter Claire Byrne stepped into her new role as the host of RTÉ Radio 1’s ‘Today Show’.

After just one day on the job, listeners were quick to sing Claire’s praises, saying that she is ‘playing a blinder’, as she wasted no time in getting straight to business grilling Taoiseach Michael Martin on the current affairs show.

Wishing Claire luck on the season ahead, Michael said before begging the interview:

“Very best of luck to yourself in terms of the season ahead. What a way to start.”

The two quickly got into the swing of things, with Claire grilling Michael about Oireachtas Golf Society dinner and his response to Phil Hogan.

Claire’s no-nonsense approach to the interview gained the praise of many, with one person tweeting:

“Claire Byrne playing a blinder on @TodayRadioRTE – fantastic journalism and broadcasting.”

While another said ‘Fair Play’

Claire was confirmed to step into the role by RTÉ earlier this month, taking over from Sarah McInerney as she filled in for Sean O’Rourke following his resignation back in May of this year.

Ahead of begging her new path, Claire said:

“I am truly delighted, honoured and humbled to be taking on this new role at RTÉ Radio 1. My job will be to represent the voices of the RTÉ Radio 1 listeners, and to always ask the questions they want answered at this most critical time.”

“I won’t let them down.”
