Looks like the apple doesn’t fall from the tree!
Yes, Paul Mescal snr has only gone and landed himself a role in a brand new showband musical.
Entitled, Are Ya Dancin’? A Showband Story, the play is set in Donegal in the 1960s, and is said to capture the magic of the showband era and the social injustices of the time.
The Mescal’s love for acting goes right back to Paul’s grandfather who was both a farmer and actor in his parish drama group back in the day.
Who would have thought?
Speaking to the Irish Times: Paul snr shared: “When I was 12 or 13 back in the mid-’70s, I asked him to put me into a play that he was directing – I was completely miscast of course – but I’ve been on the stage since then.”
Adding: “My father never saw Paul jnr on stage. It would have been lovely to see that lineage.”
While Paul snr, continued acting with various drama groups throughout his college years and teaching career, he decided to ultimately pull back from theatre as his family grew, with his last show being a production of Sweeney Todd in 2013.
Paul jnr on the other hand is currently busy filming for his next movie.
Yes, the Maynooth man has been cast as the lead actor in the follow-up to the mega-hit Gladiator and was recently spotted in Malta by fans as he soaked up the sun with his co-star Pedro Pascal.
The pair are both starring in the blockbuster which is currently filming.
Until then, you can catch Paul Snr in Are Ya Dancin’? A Showband Story at The Civic Theatre in Tallaght this July 13th-15th.
