Liam Neeson has been forced to step down as president of All Saints Amateur Boxing Club in Ballymena, after taking part in a video that supported the abolishment of the eighth amendment.
The actor narrated a video that was made in support of the Repeal the Eighth campaign, and he’s now been forced to abandon his role as president because of the clubs association with the Catholic Church. According to Sunday Life, a number of locals also complained about Liam’s involvement in the Amnesty International Ireland video.
The emotional narration was written by Father Ted creator Graham Linehan, who took to social media today to support 64-year-old Liam in the wake of this backlash. On Twitter he wrote, “Liam had the guts to take a stand for Irish women and here’s the fallout. Still stand by every word I wrote for him.”
