Lenny Abrahamson has opened up about the possibility of a second season of the highly acclaimed series ‘Normal People’.
The demand comes as viewers watched the final installment of the series on RTÉ last Tuesday night. The emotional ending left fans of the show wanting more, and so are hoping on the director of the series, Lenny to deliver.
However, it looks like we may be waiting for it, as Lenny reveals that he and the rest of the team have no plans for a second season anytime soon.
Speaking with Ian Dempsey on Today FM he admitted:
“I think the straight answer is, in a way, it’s the end of the story. That’s where Sally [Rooney] left it in the book.”
Continuing on he said: “It feels like the complete cut when you finish the novel. Having said that, in terms of the story and what it says about the characters, it is open.”
Giving us a little hope to hang on to, he also goes on to say that while it’s unlikely that there will be a second season of the show, there is still a possibility of the characters Connell and Marianne meeting again outside the realm of Normal People.
“There’s no plan at all for a second season in a traditional sense of ‘let’s just pick up where we left off in the first season’ but we always talked about the fact that it would be lovely to know where these characters were in the next five to 10 years. So, who knows? But as of now, no.”
Well there you go, now we just wait.
