Larry Gogan’s incredible grandchildren remembered the late broadcaster on RTE 2FM this morning, playing the first Christmas song of the year in his honour.
Every December 1st, Larry would take to the airwaves and kick off the festive season in style and this year, while it was a little different, was just as magical.
“In relation to the Christmas song there has been so much humming and hawing and people wondering, ‘What is going to happen?’ and we were wondering up until a week or two ago,” Doireann said on 2FM Breakfast.
“Then the most obvious and gorgeous idea was brought to the table which was that Larry’s 12 children would introduce the first song on the show.”
Before Mariah Carey’s hit single All I Want For Christmas began playing, the kids decided to say a few words and pay tribute to their granddad.
“December 1st was always a very special day for our granddad Larry. For weeks before he would get the same question from everyone every year – ‘What song are you starting this Christmas with?’
“This year sadly Larry is no longer with us and we miss him loads. So to mark this day the Larry way we have chosen a Christmas song for him.
“This year for his Christmas song on 2FM is All I Want for Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey. Happy Christmas Larry.”
We’re sure he’s incredibly proud of them.
