Kerry Katona revealed that she and ex-husband Brian McFadden never co-parented their children, Molly or Lilly Sue, after the split and have only been in the same room once since they went their separate ways in 2006.
The former Atomic Kittens singer brought up the topic in a piece for New magazine, and was inspired to do so after seeing Ronan Keating and his ex-wife Yvonne reunite for their daughter Missy’s, 21st birthday party.
Speaking about how she felt seeing pictures from the event she said; “I think it’s nice when parents can work together and get on for the sake of their children, if it was Molly or Lilly’s birthday party, I would feel more than comfortable doing something with them and their dad Brian.”
“The last time they saw me and Brian together was last March, when my auntie died, and that’s actually the first time Lilly has ever seen me and Brian in the same room since we split.”
But as the TV personality explained, she and Brian just never parented that way following their split in 2006. With Kerry adding; “If I’m being honest, me and Brian have never co-parented the kids. I’ve been the one to parent them. It’s just always been that way.”
Kerry and Brian were married from 2002 till 2006, and while reflecting on her past marriages, she revealed they’d only been together three weeks before he proposed. But as it turns out that is actually a recurring detail in Kerry’s marriages.
As the I’m a Celeb winner explained, “A lot of it has been a control thing with the men in my life. Brian proposed after three weeks, I think Mark was five weeks and with George it was eight weeks.”
“But there were different levels of control,” she added.
Continuing she said; “Brian’s a typical Irish Catholic man who wants a woman to stay at home, Mark (Croft) was all about the money and George (Key) was so desperate to be famous.”
“I’ve always given power to my partner to make them feel significant enough to be on my level because of who I am.”
Those relationships are truly behind her now as Kerry is currently engaged to model Ryan Mahoney. The reality star announced her engagement in 2020 after Ryan popped the question in Spain and the couple have been together for four years.
Enjoying a romantic getaway to celebrate her 40th birthday, Ryan got down on one knee and asked Kerry to marry him and without hesitation, she said yes! Unfortunately, their wedding has been postponed due to the pandemic.
