Kerry Condon to be honoured with Oscar Wilde Award in LA

Oh, what’s this? Just another reason why we’re proud to be Irish!

It has just been announced by the US-Ireland Alliance, that Irish actress Kerry Condon will be an honouree at the 17th annual Oscar Wilde Awards.

The 39-year-old star recently received rave reviews for her role in The Banshees of Inisherin alongside Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson and is now set to be recognised for her immense talent.

The acclaimed event, which celebrates the contribution of Irish and Irish-American artists in cinema, is set to return on 9th March 2023 to J.J. Abrams and Katie McGrath’s Bad Robot production company in Santa Monica.

Announcing the upcoming award presentation to Condon, Trina Vargo, founder and president of the US-Ireland Alliance, described the actress’ performance as a “tour de force.”

While Martin McDonagh, The Banshees film director told Vanity Fair that he had been a fan of Condon’s theatre work for quite some time, revealing that he worked to showcase her talent.

“I don’t think I’d quite seen how brilliant she was onstage really captured in the movies. I wanted to make sure that we did that, and she just blew me away.”

The Irish actress was also directed by McDonagh in the Academy Award-winning Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and worked with him in various stage productions – originating the role of Mairead in Martin’s play, The Lieutenant of Inishmore and also appearing in The Cripple of Inishmaan.

Kelly has also worked extensively on television over the years, which included her playing the lead role in Sharon Horgan’s comedy series, Women on the Verge along with appearances in Better Call Saul and Luck, opposite Dustin Hoffman and Nick Nolte.

Any Marvel fans out there may also recognise her as the voice of Friday in three of the Avengers films.

Most recently, Kelly has been named on Variety’s “10 Actors to Watch” list and can next be seen in the upcoming thriller In the Land of Saints and Sinners alongside Liam Neeson and Ciarán Hinds.
