Irish influencer Keilidh Cashell has shared her thoughts about online bullying.
Sharing her thoughts on the recent Britney Spears documentary, which Irish people could watch on NOW TV showed the negative side of fame and how we don’t always take mental health issues seriously, especially when it’s someone in the public eye.
On her Instagram stories, Keilidh wrote:
“People are silly. How can you feel so sorry for Britney Spears, see all the horrible stuff the media wrote about her and the effect it had on her and her life.. then come online and make TikToks and horrible comments about other people?”
Continuing on, Keilidh pointed out that just because someone is in the public eye doesn’t mean they deserve to receive hate online.
“‘Don’t be online if you can’t take it. It comes with the job.’ Ummm how about no?”
“You’re telling people to put up with bullies, instead of dealing with the actual problem.. which is the fact that people can come online and say whatever they want about anyone with no consequences.”
This isn’t the first time Keilidh has spoken out about online bullying and its negative effects. Recently, Keilidh was one face among many pushing the passing of a law to make online harassment a criminal offense.
Dubbed ‘CoCos Law’ after Nicole Fox Fenlon who tragically commited suicide following relentless online bullying. The bill has since been passed, making online bullying, revenge porn, digital harassment, and online stalking a crime.
