Christmas can be a difficult time for someone trying to maintain their weight.
People are torn between staying healthy and making smart choices, and indulging because it’s the festive season.
Thankfully Operation Transformation’s fitness expert Karl Henry spoke exclusively to VIP Magazine about how to stay healthy over Christmas.
“I think balance is the Christmas word,” he said.
“I think the season needs to be balanced… generally we’d got more time off than normal so we get most of our clients to aim for one hour a day of some form of exercise, be it a fast walk, a cycle or a gym session.
“One hour a day can help balance out the Christmas effect.”
Karl explained that although we are consuming more over the season, enjoyment is important too.
“You are eating far too many calories, but, in the same boat, life is for living.
“Putting on a bit of weight of Christmas is not a bad thing but putting a lot is not great.
“If you put on three or four pounds over the 10-day time-frame, you can knock that off pretty quickly.”
He added: “So we get our balance with the one-hour a day rule.”
The fitness coach also said that it is important not to over-indulge everynight.
“Pick your parties, this year seems busier than before, so if you’re going to go out every night pick one, don’t make every night a big night. Because otherwise, you feel atrocious.
“Obviously the next day’s first meal of the day is the crucial one, it sets the tone for the rest of the day.
“Go for something healthy and it will help you on track far better.”
Some very practical advice!
