Actor John C. Reilly is set to be honoured at the US-Ireland Alliance’s Oscar Wilde Awards in Los Angeles in February.
The annual awards ceremony is held by the US-Ireland Alliance to celebrate the contribution Ireland makes to film, television, and music.
The event has also long played a role in bringing about artistic collaborations, from giving young actors and singers a profile in the US, to encouraging the shooting of films, like Star Wars, in Ireland.
The Chicago-born Irish American has often spoken of his family’s strong ties to Ireland.
Visiting frequently, he was even chosen as the International Guest of Honor at Dublin’s St. Patrick’s Day parade back in 2022.
For more than three decades, Reilly has remained one of the most beloved and versatile actors of his generation, effortlessly navigating the worlds of comedy, drama, and musical theatre with a rare blend of skill and charm.
Speaking about the nominee, US-Ireland Alliance President Trina Vargo said: “When President Kennedy arrived in Ireland in June 1963, he noted that ‘Ireland’s sons and daughters are scattered throughout the world’ and that they have ‘kept a special place in their ancestral memories, of this green and misty island, so in a sense, all of them who visit Ireland come home’.
“That deep connection with Ireland so clearly applies to John C Reilly, and we look forward to celebrating his impressive career.”
Reilly will be joining some pretty big past recipients of the Oscar Wilde Awards including Pierce Brosnan, Richard Baneham, Molly Shannon, Jamie Dornan, Mark Hamill, Jim Sheridan, Chris O’Dowd, Colin Farrell, Caitríona Balfe, Ruth Negga, Sarah Bolger, Lenny Abrahamson, Saoirse Ronan, Brendan Gleeson, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, and Neil Jordan.
Further 2025 recipients will be announced in the coming weeks.
While the ceremony itself is expected to take place at the Ebell of Los Angeles on Thursday 27 February.
Exciting times!
