Nicky Byrne has been gearing up for the Eurovision semi-final which will take place in Stockholm on Thursday the 12th of May.
He revealed to TVNow, our sister mag, that the real pressure is the semi-final as we haven’t qualified for two years. He hopes that he can do Ireland proud by getting past that hurdle.
Jedward got through the tough semi’s in 2011 with their song Lipstick, and even ended up coming in eighth place in the overall competition. We hope Nicky can do the same if not better!
Nicky said that John and Edward messaged him on Twitter to wish him luck, along with a few tips for when he is in Stockholm. Former Eurovision winner Johnny Logan also took the time to wish the Sunlight singer looking in the song contest.
“Jedward DM’d me through Twitter a couple of times to wish me luck, and gave me a few pointers. Johnny Logan contacted me to wish me luck and to say he liked the song and that the Swedish always put on a great show, and to contact him if he could help in any way,” he said.
Nicky also told TvNow that he’s nervous for his performance because he doesn’t want to let Ireland down.
“I’m nervous of not doing a good job or not qualifying, or people thinking it was abysmal despite the hype. I don’t want that to happen…I’m representing Ireland and that’s a whole other responsibility. But with all of that, you keep telling yourself it’s three minutes, you’ve done this before.”
Don’t worry Nicky, we believe in you!
