Following his breathtaking performance last week, paralympic athlete Jason Smyth and his partner, Karen Byrne took on this season’s first Rumba.

It is no easy job to take on a brand-new dance.

But the pair took it in their stride and delivered a mesmerising performance.

Dancing to Tom Jones’ hit With These Hands, Jason took on the iconic role of Edward Scissorhands.

And yes they went all out with the props.

“Tonight, you captivated me with the commitment to this character,” said Judge Arthur Gourounlian.

“I wish you were a bit stronger with your body but saying all that you presented so beautifully. I love the scissor hands.”

Judge Brian Redmond noticed some “timing issues,” but thought the hip action was good despite some stiffness.

“The competition is getting tight so I hope you don’t end up for the chop tonight as a result of it,” he added.

Judge Loraine Barry, however, has hope for Shane saying: “This is the first Rumba and it’s such a difficult dance.”

She was looking out for the feet and commended him for doing his best.

“You completed every step you needed to do.”

His performance earned him a total of 18 points but did he do enough? Time will tell…
