James Corden was given the title of an honorary Irishman at the Oscar Wilde Party in the US this week.
The actor revealed the first duty of his new role is to stop fellow Englishmen from mimicking Irish accents and saying clichéd phrases whenever they meet someone from the Emerald Isle.
Speaking to RTE Ten, James said, “I’m honoured to be honoured in such a way.
“It makes me feel embarrassed every time myself, or any of my countrymen, have said to anyone Irish, ‘Top o’ the morning to ya!’
“I cannot begin to imagine how annoying that must be, and I will endeavor to stop that.
“If there’s anything I can do as an honorary Irishman, I will spread the message that it’s not funny.”
