The news has come today that Ivan Yates is officially leaving his position in Newstalk at the end of this month. He has decided to leave his broadcasting position to move back to his native county of Wexford with his wife.
Currently, he also fronts Virgin Media Television’s The Tonight Show, but right now it is unclear if he’ll also be leaving this position or not.
According to the Irish Daily Mirror, a memo sent to Newstalk staff today read: “I am writing to inform you that Ivan Yates will be stepping down from his role as presenter of The Hard Shoulder at the end of the month.
“Ivan has decided to step back from full-time broadcasting and he and his wife are moving home to live in Enniscorthy.”
Ivan Yates first joined Newstalk back in 2009, before leaving in 2012 and then returning in September 2013 where he co-hosted the show with Chris Donoghue for the three more years. He then left Newstalk once again in 2016, before beginning his weekday drivetime show ‘The Hard Shoulder’ the following year.
His replacement will be announced later in the summer.
