It’s the most expensive time of the year. Here’s how to make sure you’re in credit this Christmas

Forgive us dear Lord, but few things in life give us greater pleasure than shopping. And with Christmas fast approaching we have a list as long as our arm. Yipee!

Clearly, the crowds, and the stress of online delivery dates, are not that pleasant. But buying lovely gifts for the special people in our lives is all pleasure. However, reality always bites. And that nasty credit card bill come January bites real hard, taking all the fun out of our lovely giving.

Every year we try to shop less, make more lists (yes, more lists!) and recycle pressies. Last year we even gifted homemade gingerbread biscuits tied up in pretty gingham string! But still Christmas always costs a bomb. And, then January comes, and with it the credit card statement. One eye opened, one eye closed, we avoid it like the plague, leaving it unopened in our inbox for days!

But there is another way. Cancel Christmas?! Never! No, the other way, dear readers, is Avantcard Mastercard way.

Now, stay with us here for a moment, please. Avantcard is a credit card, yes. But, it’s a slightly different credit card to others in that it has some perks that the others don’t. Namely no interest on any purchases for the first three months. We like that. We like that a lot. Also, there’s 0% interest on balance transfers for the first six months (read on and we’ll explain) and 0% interest on money transfers for the first nine months.

So, what does this all mean? Avantcard has the most comprehensive introductory offer out there on the market. Called the 3-6-9, it has 0% interest on any purchases you make with the Avantcard for the first three months. As well as that, it offers 0% interest on balance transfers for the first six months. So for example, you can pay off your existing credit card bill and not have to pay a cent in interest for the first six months!

A further benefit is the 0% interest on money transfers, allowing you to use your credit limit to put money into your bank account. Basically, it’s an interest-free loan for 9 months, provided you pay it off within that time, and make the minimum monthly repayments.

Paying with your Avantcard is a much more pleasant way shop. You don’t need to waste time queing at an ATM to take out the cash, and being charged bank fees and government stamp duty for every withdrawal. And if you use your debit card at any point of sale, there could be bank charges applied there also, on top of regular account maintenance fees!

Instead, you can just use your Avantcard in store, and benefit from the 3-6-9 offer. Furthermore, it gives you 4% cashback when you use Booking. com.

So Avantcard is not just for Christmas, it’s for your holidays, too!

Application is pretty straight forward, and it can be done online. If you supply the correct documents you could get your card within a week. The website even has a handy eligibility checker that will tell you what type of credit limit you might be eligible for.

However, if you’d prefer to speak to a human, they can do that too! In fact, just last month, Avantcard, which is based in Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim, were awarded Consumer Credit Team of the Year by ICMT.

Now, before you rush to the website, consider your options, your funds, and if it is the best financial plan for you. Good luck, and happy shopping!
