Sile Seoige has revealed that she feels it is important to raise her baby to speak Irish.
The TV presenter gave birth to Cathal in August of 2017.
Now, at just five-months-old, Sile reveals that she is speaking only Irish to the baby.
“I am speaking Irish to him and my parents are doing the same.
“There is a mix of both,” she said speaking as Gaeilge.
Her partner Damien also speaks Irish, but is using resources to improve his fluency.
“Damien speaks Irish too, and in Spiddal recently we bought some books that help you learn Irish, so he’s reading that and listening to Buntús Cainte and all that in the car, he’s great.
“He has brilliant Irish, it’s like everything else, it’s just practice, it’ll come back.
“He has a great standard of Irish, and his own dad has Irish too because he was a school teacher, so there is Irish there.”
She added: “We are making an effort which is really important.”
The Galway girl also explained why it is important for her son to go to an Irish speaking school.
“Without a doubt, he’ll be going to a Gaelscoil, even though I honestly love the Educate Together schools, but for me, Gaeilge is a big thing that I’d love to be able pass that on.”
Cathal is a true Irish name, and Sile revealed the significance of it today at the launch of Aldi’s Baby & Toddler Event.
The couple had a naming ceremony in December to mark the special choice.
“Cathal is a name that is connected to Connacht and Munster, there was a high king in Connacht and obviously Damien is from Cork so it was nice.
Aldi’s hugely popular Baby and Toddler event is back in 130 stores nationwide from Thursday 18th January.
