Barry Keoghan has opened up about finding fame with girlfriend Shona by his side.
The actor has gone from strength to strength in the last year alone, starring in massive films such as Dunkirk and The Killing of a Sacred Deer.
The 24-year-old explains how important it is to have close friends and family around him to keep him grounded.
“It is hard to keep your head sometimes. I just make sure I surround myself with good people,” he said.
“They keep you in check, keep your feet on the ground. You hear a lot of talk of ‘you’re great’ and that can lead you to lose your head a little and distract you. I’ve stayed friends with the boys I’ve known since I was 10. My family helped a lot as well.”
Barry has been with his girlfriend Shona Guerin since early this year after the pair met in Kerry, where she is from.
He adds that it nice to have something by his side as his career takes off to new heights.
“It’s all new to me and it’s new to her too and we’re experiencing it together,” Barry told the Herald.
“In the space of only two weeks she met Harry Styles, Nicole Kidman and Tom Hardy and it’s overwhelming for her.
“For someone to be brought into all that, it’s nice to do it together.”
While the Dubliner says it can be nervewracking for his girlfriend, he admits it can be for him too.
“To be honest, I still get awestruck when I meet my heroes and the people I admire. I think that’s only natural.”
