A number of Irish stars have been paying tribute and sharing fond and personal memories of the late Diego Maradona.
The legendary footballer passed away very suddenly this week at the age of 60.
He died in his Argentinian home following a heart attack, his lawyer confirmed.
Irish footie star Robbie Keane said, “The best that ever was. This is a very sad day in football. We have lost a great.”
Recalling an afternoon spent in his company and sharing a number of family photos, Robbie continued, “I am so glad that I had the pleasure of meeting Diego and spending some time with him and his wife Rocio.
“He will be sadly missed. He inspired a generation but his memory will live on through his brilliance.
“The kindness he showed my family, and particularly my son Robert, will never be forgotten. Memories we will treasure.”
Nicky Byrne also paid tribute to Diego Maradona.
“1980s football in one picture,” he said. “Someone we all wanted to be while playing on the street. A sad day.”
