Since 2009 Pieta House has been running it’s Darkness Into Light walk rain or shine. Sadly this morning the conditions turned out for the worse as people went out in their thousands to take part in the event.
The annual 5k is a fundraiser for the suicide support and prevention charity, and helps to raise funds for their vital services. This is the second year they have had to run the event virtually as people socially distance around the country.
At the time of writing they have raised almost 6.5 million euro as people up and down the country get involved and donate.
Many well-known Irish faces also took part this morning and encouraged their followers to donate.
Doireann Garrihy brought her dog, Bertie with her and boyfriend Paddy as they completed their 5k in the Phoenix Park.
It seems Bertie wasn’t too impressed as he spent the rest of the morning wrapped in a towel having a nap, as we’re sure many people will be doing!
Louise Cooney shared; “A memorable walk for sure. So amazing & emotional to see the support from so many people braving the elements this morning. Nothing will stop us Irish, not even hurricane-like weather.”

Niamh de Brún took part with a friend as they braved the elements, she shared some beautiful snaps of the sun rising during their walk around Kilkenny this morning.
Brian Dowling and his husband, Arthur, took part in the fundraiser this morning, completing their 5k in Kildare.

The Fleming’s were out in full force this morning as they took to the beach to take part.
